- KCCA Leopards 75-61 KIU Rangers
KCCA Leopards delivered a commanding second-half performance to defeat the KIU Rangers 75-61 in Friday’s National Basketball League clash at the Lugogo Indoor Arena.
Despite a slow start that saw them trail 18-14 at the end of the first quarter, the Leopards regrouped quickly.
Led by a relentless offensive and defensive push, they turned the tide in the second period, outscoring the Rangers 26-14 to head into halftime with a solid 40-32 lead.
After the break, the Rangers intensified their efforts and managed to close the gap slightly, cutting KCCA’s lead to four points by the end of the third quarter.
However, the Leopards remained composed under pressure, controlling the tempo of the final frame. A strong 21-point burst in the fourth quarter sealed a well-deserved 14-point victory.
Asinah Kabendela was pivotal for the Leopards, registering an impressive double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds, making her presence felt on both ends of the court.
Perus Nyamwenge led the scoring for KCCA with 20 points, while veteran players Susan Aanyu and Margaret Bagaala added 15 and 10 points, respectively.
For the KIU Rangers, Sarah Yaweh put up a valiant effort with a game-high 16 points. Racheal Nanyonga followed with 15 points, Elizabeth Aguti Akol chipped in 13 and Sharon Kirabo contributed 12 points but their collective efforts weren’t enough to overcome the Leopards’ cohesive team play.
The victory is a significant boost for Coach Roger Serunyigo’s side, reaffirming KCCA’s credentials as one of the league’s top contenders this season.
Meanwhile, Coach Julius Lutwama and the Rangers will look to come together and address their second-half struggles ahead of their next fixture.
