- Sapphire 141/6 in 20 overs (Hamu Kayondo 46, Calvin Watuwa 29)
- Gold 144/5 in 17.5 overs (Kenneth Waiswa 56, Robinson Obuya 27)
- Gold won by 5 wickets
Kenneth Waiswa delivered a captain’s performance scoring a match-winning half century to lead Gold to a five-wicket victory over Sapphire in the MAXX second round-robin phase opener on Tuesday morning.
After winning the toss, Sapphire opted to bat first and posted a respectable 141/6 in 20 overs. Hamu Kayondo (36) and Calvin Watuwa (29) provided crucial contributions, while Omara Ronald (22*) finished the innings strongly.
However, Gold’s bowlers kept things in check, with Zappy Maurice (2/21) and Brian Masaba (2/14) leading the attack. Yunus Sowobi (2/26) also played a key role, ensuring that Sapphire didn’t post an insurmountable total.

In reply, Gold lost early wickets, but Waiswa’s unbeaten 56 off 32 balls, which included four fours and four sixes, stabilized the innings.
Obuya Robinson (27) and Steven Wabwose (19 ) provided aggressive cameos, ensuring that Gold chased down the target in 17.5 overs, finishing at 144/5.
Despite Bilal Hassan (2/35) and Henry Ssenyondo (1/24) trying to keep Sapphire in the game, Waiswa’s brilliance with the bat proved too much to handle.
With this win, Gold gained momentum ahead of their next game against Emerald on Wednesday morning. Meanwhile, Sapphire will look to bounce back when they take on Ruby in the afternoon fixture.
