Kenya’s Harambee Stars have withdrawn from the CECAFA Four Nations Tournament just hours before their opening match against Uganda.

The week-long tournament, set for July 21–27 in Arusha, took a hit when the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) pulled the plug on their team’s participation on Monday.

FKF said the decision followed advice from head coach Benni McCarthy and his technical team, who deemed the conditions in Arusha unsuitable.

“The team will return home and focus on preparing for the upcoming African Nations Championship (CHAN),” FKF announced.

Kenya’s exit comes days after Congo Brazzaville also pulled out. Their spot was filled by CHAN holders Senegal.

With Kenya gone, the tournament is now down to three teams; Uganda, Senegal, and hosts Tanzania forcing organizers to revise the schedule.
