The long awaited Mukono T20 Cup finally comes to life on Tuesday morning at the Florida Oval in Nkokonjeru, marking a fresh start for cricket development in the greater Mukono region.

For a community that has spent years grooming players with few competitive platforms, this inaugural tournament feels like a breakthrough.

Six homegrown teams will battle in a double round-robin format designed to give players more game time and exposure.

The top two will contest the final on November 28, but for many, the chance to compete is already a win.

To bring fans closer, every match will be streamed live for communities in Nkokonjeru, Ziba, Nnunga, Ngogwe, Kalagala, and beyond.

Uganda’s top umpires headline the officiating crew, backed by budding officials from Mukono to keep the development spirit front and center.

No one mirrors that spirit more than Mukono Cricket Community Chairman Simon Kintu, who sees the Cup as the realization of a long-held dream.

“We are happy to shake off the ice and launch an annual tournament we’ve long envisioned,” Kintu said ahead of the opening fixtures.

“As a community committed to growing the game, this event offers people from Nkokonjeru, Ziba, Nnunga, Ngogwe, and Kalagala not just entertainment, but a chance to embrace cricket.”

Youth remain at the heart of the project. Many Under-19 players, preparing for regional and national assignments, will use the Cup as a proving ground.

With several promising youngsters coming through Mukono’s cricket nurseries, the tournament provides the ideal stage for their next leap.
