Kira United extended their lead at the top of the Buganda Regional League (Ssizibwa Group) after beating Synergy 4-1 at Kira playground on Wednesday, 2nd April 2025.
Prince Derrick Walegembe and James Kawuka scored a brace each to ensure that Kira United reached 44 points from 18 games.
Kira United’s rivals Manyangwa FC were stopped by Buikwe Redstars who won the game 1-0 with John Mukiri scoring the only goal of the game played at Buikwe ground.
On the same Matchday, Uganda Sports Arena won their game at home, beating Free Stars 1-0 at Ntenjeru Ssaza ground as the Kayunga-based side went second on 32 points, passing Manyangwa FC.
In other Ssezibwa group games, Wobulenzi United beat Sparks Kilondo 1-0 at Katikamu Vete, Luweero Untied put more misery on Kyetume FC with a 3-2 win at Nakisunga, while Nantabulirwa were held 1-1 by Seeta United at Nantabulirwa playground.
As the Ssezibwa Group looks settled, in Katonga Group the competition is still rising despite leader Super Eagles Lugongwe picking up a 3-1 win on the road over Nyendo FC at Lwetamu in Lwengo.
With the win taking them to 43 points, second-placed Buwambo United defeated Kakiri Town Council 1-0 in Kakiri, and third-placed Simba FC won as well with a hard-fought 3-2 over Masaka Sunshine, with all teams vying for top spot winning on the road.
Elsewhere, Masaka City won over Kajjansi United in Kajjansi, and Young Simba defeated Kiwango United by 2-1 in Bombo as the only side to win at home in Katonga Group.
With 5-7 games as per team remaining, only 4 points in between the top three teams of Katonga Group in the fight to scoop the top spot which will guide them to the playoff against Sardines Group winner before facing Kampala Region winner for a Big League slot.
