Kireka A Chess Club Retains Top Spot in National Chess League

Kireka A Chess Club edged Civil Aviation Authority Chess Club 3.5-1.5 on Sunday to remain top of the table in the National Chess League.

It was a close-run victory that saw only Emmanuel Egesa and Sana Omprakash win their games.

FM Patrick Kawuma, the side’s board one player drew against Mark Wasswa Nyola.

The same was for Allan Matthias Ssonko and Emmanuel Musasizi. Ssonko on board two and Musasizi on four also drew their games.

Kireka remain top of the table, but their tiebreak margin is cut after Mulago Kings’ convincing win.

Mulago Kings eased past Lighthouse Atoma, beating the side 5-1 to stay within zero distance of the leaders.

While they lost board five, Mulago won all their remaining boards. FM Harold Wanyama beat Shilloh Tandeka while Peter Majur Manyang and Innocent Tamale also win their respective games.

Mulago Kings won board four by a forfeit after Lighthouse’s board four failed to turn up.

Despite the comfortable win, Mulago stay second on a tiebreak.

The league returns two weeks from now.
