Kitara FC moved to the top of the Uganda Premier League table following a 3-1 victory over Wakiso Giants at Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium on Wednesday.
The Hoima-based side came from behind to secure the win, with Denis Omedi, substitutes Brian Aheebwa, and Jude Ssemugabi scoring in the second half.
Wakiso had taken the lead in the first half through Titus Ssematimba, but Kitara showed great character to bounce back and claim all three points.
The victory moves Kitara to 15 points, level with second-placed BUL FC, but with a superior goal difference.
Kitara midfielder Jasper Aheebwa, who has been one of the team’s top performers this season, believes that they can maintain their good start to the campaign.
“We feel we are not yet where we want to be,” Aheebwa said. “We want to try and win more games in the league. Our target is to finish in the top four and so far, we are on track for that.”
“We shall continue to push for that. The character and morale of the players is high and we believe we can maintain it.”
Wakiso Giants captain Hassan Ssenyonjo admitted that his team failed to live up to expectations in the match.
“We didn’t use the home advantage to our advantage,” Ssenyonjo said.
“We tried to make sure that we won but failed to create our chances. But we shall improve with time.”
In other Uganda Premier League matches on Wednesday, Mbarara City beat Arua Hill 1-0 thanks to a goal from Henry Kitegenyi to give the Ankole Lions their first taste of victory this season.
