St Mary’s Kitende has beaten Amus College 5-3 on penalties to reach this year’s National Football Championship final.
The defending champions scored in the early stages of the game through midfielder Frank Katongole.
Defender Justin Opiro brought in a long throw-in which Uganda Hippos midfielder Katongole hit well to give Kitende the lead.
Amus College got an equalizer through their talisman Allan Oyirwoth who headed home David Ssemujju’s cross.
Just before the first-half break, Kitende were awarded a penalty. Olimi Nyala stepped up but his strike went off-target.
In the second half, the two teams created chances to kill off the game but all their efforts were in vain.
The referee ended the game as the two schools were on level and penalties had to decide who will play in the final.
Right back Sonko Ssembatya’s penalty was saved by Kitende’s custodian Allan Bitali Igama.
The defending champions made no mistake as they scored all their penalties Hakim Mutebi scored the decisive penalty to send his side in the final.
Kitende will face St Henry’s College Kitovu in the final after Amus and Royal Giant High School square off in the third playoff tomorrow at Nyakasura playground.
The finalists met in the group stages and the Masaka side, Kitovu came out victorious with a 2-1 score.
However, the big question is, will Kitovu stop Kitende from lifting an 11th title and lift their first? Well, your guess is as good as yours, dear reader.
