The Pool Association of Uganda (PAU) announces its Women’s Day Pool Tournament, a ranking event, to be held at Icon Bar in Kitgum on March 8th, 2025.
This event marks a milestone as the tournament, successfully piloted last year at Cas Bar and Lounge (formerly L’Amour) in Kansanga, expands to become a ranking event and ventures upcountry for the first time.
In an effort to celebrate women in pool, PAU has organized transportation for Kampala-based players, ensuring their participation in this historic one-day tournament in Kitgum.

Deborah Ibenu, Women Affairs Executive Committee Member, expressed her excitement, stating that hosting this event upcountry for the first time is a testament to their dedication to inclusivity and growth.
“We are incredibly excited to bring this prestigious tournament to Kitgum. We hope that this event will inspire many more women to join the sport and showcase their talent,” she said.
This initiative aligns with PAU’s strategic plan to host events across the country, fulfilling the National Council of Sports requirement for national sports associations to cover at least 75 percent of the country with their activities.
This expansion aims to spread the sport of pool and engage communities nationwide. Ritah Nimusiima, the winner of the inaugural tournament last year, shared her anticipation, saying.
“I am very excited to see this tournament grow into a ranking event and move to Kitgum. I am looking forward to defending my title and seeing the talent that the women from Kitgum and all over Uganda will bring.”
It is important to note that while the women will be competing in Kitgum, the men will be preparing for the resumption of league action, which kicks off on Sunday following a two-week break.
