The regular season of the rugby championship is winding down. Everyone knows every game counts if they are to make the playoffs and make it a favorable outing for some, while others race against the clock to beat relegation.
2021 Champions, KCB KOBs, are making the journey to Entebbe to face the ever-rising Plascon Mongers in a game that determines who gets to stay in the top four, for at least another week.
The Mongers are on a smooth bounce, having gotten solid wins against defending champions, Stanbic Black Pirates and the fiery Rhinos to go third on 26 points, with 6 wins and just two losses.
The KOBs, on the other hand, have had an unfamiliar below-par season where they find themselves on three losses, four wins, and a draw from eight games, collecting 24 points, only good enough for fifth.
The kicking game will be high up on the agenda this Saturday, and the Mongers will count on the ineffable ability of Robin Odrua to steer them past the widespread execution of Joseph Aredo, Josiah Ssempeke, and/or Rasul Abiriga.
Elsewhere in the National Rugby Championship
Two weeks have passed and the Pirates would love to play another game that helps them forget the abysmal outing last time at Kyadondo against the Buffaloes.
The Stanbic Black Pirates are in Lugogo, to play the Rhinos, who until week 5, were unbeaten. The two teams are hurt and have rested enough, and now will look to get their seasons back on track after the recent derailments.
The Platinum Credit Heathens will be looking to keep their unbeaten run going, as they host the new boys, Kampani’s Eagles.
Also flirting with relegation, the Lifeguard Rams are hosting the Toyota Buffaloes, the latter coming off a big win against the Pirates.
The Jinja Hippos are hosting the Warriors, with high hopes of keeping their amazing run on track, and continue pushing the Heathens for the top spot.
Walukuba Barbarians need a win this weekend against the Impis to confirm that they won’t be in the relegation conversation, with two games to spare. A bonus point win would make things interesting between them and the Rhinos.
