Nile Special was on Friday announced as the official sponsorship of the 2nd edition of the Kitaka 10s, a tournament organised by the KOBs Rugby Football Club.
Nile Special will be the official beer partner for the tournament scheduled for October 26-27 at Kings Park Arena, the home of Black Pirates RFC.
“Nile Special’s legacy in Uganda rugby speaks for itself. As proud sponsors of both the National Rugby Sevens and the National Rugby Championship, we’ve consistently supported the growth of the game in Uganda.
“Partnering with the Kitaka 10s is another step in our commitment to developing local talent and celebrating the rich rugby culture. Our commitment to rugby remains strong, and we look forward to an exciting weekend of not only competition but also association with Ugandan Rugby’s number one stakeholders, the players and the fans,” said Nile Special’s Joel Galla.
As part of KOBs’ 60th anniversary last year, this flagship tournament was relaunched as KITAKA 10s, an international and Invitational lifestyle event, in memory of their Patron and Chairman, Edward Kitaka.
The aim of this preseason tournament amongst others is to bring the 15- Aside rugby players that were not actively involved in the Uganda Rugby Union 7s circuits back to the desired game fitness level while maintaining the fitness of those that participated in the 7s.
Are the KOBs ready to host?
“We have a dedicated and experienced technical and administration team that have done tremendous leg work to get this tournament to go and we looking forward to having a brilliant rugby weekend but we mainly hope these matches provide an opportunity for players to showcase their skills and strengthen the bond of sportsmanship in the competitiveness of rugby in Uganda,” noted Dr. Tonny Stone Luggya, KOBs RFC Chairman.
The Kitaka 10s offers a unique blend of sports and social engagement, with opportunities for fans, players, and sponsors to connect within an environment driven by passion for rugby. Nile Special’s involvement ensures that the tournament continues to grow as one of the premier lifestyle events in the regional rugby calendar.
“With the support of the various stakeholders, we hope we shall have the winner walking away with 4 million shillings and the second placed team with 2 million shillings and the ladies winner with 1 million shillings, MVP and top scorer 500,000 shillings each. This can grow the tournament into the biggest annual rugby calendar event that blends sport, social networking and lifestyle events in the region while providing opportunities for sponsors like Nile Special to brand and reach a new market segment,” said Luggya.
This year’s edition will be graced by two Kenyan teams (bith from Harlequin Rugby Club – the 2024 champions of the Kenya Rugby Union 7s) and top 14 Uganda teams that have confirmed participation.
There will also be eight ladies’ teams playing a round robin tournament which will give us a weekend of 45 men’s games and ladies games of high-quality rugby.
