Desperate to turn their season around, Kyadondo Ssaza has brought in two young attackers, Ivan Kalungi and Ashiraf Lujja, ahead of their crucial home game against Mawokota. The match, set for Saturday, August 9, at Hamz Stadium in Nakivubo, marks the start of the second round of the 2025 Masaza Cup group stage.
The one-time champions are currently struggling in fourth place in the group, with just five points from five games. Their biggest issue has been scoring, with the team netting only three goals all season while conceding four.
Meet the New Additions
Ivan Kalungi, an 18-year-old striker, has been promoted from the B-list after consistently outscoring the senior attackers in friendly matches. Ashiraf Lujja, a 24-year-old attacking midfielder, joins the squad to improve the team’s ability to capitalize on rebounds and create more scoring opportunities.
These two young talents will join a crowded attacking force that includes Sulaiman Ali Ssentongo, Isac Ssenyunja, Marvin Kabiito, and Alex Mutebi, among others.
A Must-Win Clash for Kyadondo
The pressure is on for Kyadondo. Head coach Medi Nyanzi has called the game a “must-win.” The last time these two teams met on July 27, they played to a goalless draw in Buwama.
“When we met them in Buwama, we were the better team, but though we managed 0-0, now we are home, we are going to start from where we stopped,” Nyanzi said. “All our players are ready because it’s the only game we have to win.”
Kyadondo is in good shape and fully motivated to secure their second victory of the campaign. Their only win so far came in the first game of the season against Bulemeezi.
