Kyadondo SS and Bombo Army Dominate National Secondary Schools Kabaddi Championship

Kyadondo Secondary School and Bombo Army Secondary School emerged as the champions in the boys’ and girls’ categories, respectively, at the 5th edition of the National Secondary Schools Kabaddi Championship. The tournament was held in Masindi, with the finals taking place at Kabalega Secondary School.


Boys’ Championship: Kyadondo SS Triumphs

In the boys’ final, Kyadondo SS from Matugga secured a decisive victory over St. Barnabas College Migadde, with a final score of 72-50. This win marks a significant achievement for Kyadondo SS, who were runners-up in the previous season.

Kyadondo SS’s path to the final included a dominant performance against two-time champions Mulusa Academy Wobulenzi, whom they defeated 79-35 in the semifinal. St. Barnabas College Migadde advanced to the final after a thrilling match against Bombo Army, winning on a toss after the game ended in a 76-76 tie in normal time and a 5-5 tie in penalties.


Girls’ Championship: Bombo Army Takes the Title

Bombo Army SS claimed the girls’ championship by defeating St. Barnabas College Migadde 67-33 in the final. This victory prevented St. Barnabas from adding to their inaugural 2019 win.

On their way to the final, Bombo Army narrowly edged out Kyadondo SS Matugga with a close 58-57 win in the semifinal. St. Barnabas College Migadde secured their spot in the final by eliminating Masindi SS with a commanding 71-28 win.


Individual Accolades and Tournament Highlights

Several players received individual awards for their outstanding performance.

Boys’ Individual Awards:

  • Best Defender: Timothy Lubwama (St. Barnabas College Migadde)
  • Best Raider: Yibanda Derrick (Bombo Army SS)
  • Most Valuable Player (MVP): Rahim Sekamate (Kyadondo SS)

Girls’ Individual Awards:

  • Best Defender: Lubango Jovita (St. Barnabas College Migadde)
  • Best Raider: Shirat (Kyadondo SS)
  • Most Valuable Player (MVP): Nalwoga Nahia (St. Barnabas College Migadde)

Last year’s champions, Matugga High School (boys) and Kololo SS (girls), did not repeat their success. Matugga High School did not participate this year, while Kololo SS was eliminated in the early stages of the tournament.
