A sense of purpose filled Kasangati on Friday as Kyadondo Ssaza unveiled a refreshed management team, blending experience and loyalty in a fresh bid to reclaim past glory.
At the Ssaza headquarters, Ssaza Chief (Kaggo) Al Hajji Ahmed Magandaazi Matovu confirmed key changes ahead of the new campaign, signaling a serious push to restore Kyadondo’s lost dominance.

Kaboggoza returns
The biggest appointment was Hajji Norman Ssemwanga Kaboggoza as team manager, replacing Joseph Mugisha.

Kaboggoza was part of Kyadondo’s golden generation that won their only Masaza Cup title in 2008, serving as vice chairman under Frank Kyazze. That triumph remains the standard every squad has tried to match.
He brings vast experience, having served in different football roles, including at Nakawa District Football Associations.
He is currently a delegate to the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) Assembly for Kampala 3rd Division teams and president of Kireka United.
In 2023, he guided his clan, Ekika Kye Ngonge, to the Bika Bya Baganda Football Shield title as sports prime and team manager. Kyadondo will hope he can inspire another winning chapter.
New man on the touchline
On the bench, Bright Nyanzi takes over as head coach, replacing Medi Nyanzi. Assistant Jackson Nsubuga had briefly held the role on an interim basis.
Bright Nyanzi has previously worked as assistant to Simon Peter Mugerwa and is known for his discipline and tactical approach.
He also coaches Rines in women’s football. This will be his first stint as head coach in the prestigious, Plascon-sponsored tournament.
Kyadondo have often reached the semifinals in recent years but have failed to lift the trophy again since 2008. Nyanzi’s task is clear: end the drought.
Lubwama takes charge
Nicholas Lubwama, popularly known as “Yesu Afaayo,” was named chairman, replacing Khalid Ssimbwa.
Lubwama has long supported the team behind the scenes, stepping in during difficult moments. His appointment formalizes that commitment.
“I am very thankful to Yesu Afaayo for always standing with Ssaza Kyadondo football team,” Kaggo said.
“To the management, I plead with you to give us the trophy because we have picked the best.”
Hajji Jaffar Ssenganda was named patron as Kyadondo step up their hunt for a second Masaza Cup crown.
Structure retained
While the leadership changes stand out, much of the structure remains.
Robert Lubega stays on as CEO, Paul Mugambe as vice chairperson, and Hassan Kazibwe Saava as head of publicity, ensuring continuity.
