Weatherhead Hockey Club will seek to distance themselves from Wananchi when they take on Makerere in the National Men’s Hockey League on Saturday.
Steven Jjuuko‘s team leads the table standings currently with 34 points, but hot on their heels is Wananchi who have the same points.
A win for them today will see them create a three-point gap for at least a day as Wananchi play Weatherhead Titans on Sunday.
Weatherhead can’t afford to falter if they’re to deny Wananchi another league title.
They are aware of what a force to reckon with Wananchi is, but as long as they keep winning their games, they will not mind winning the league on goal difference.
The goal difference of 91 is what’s keeping Weatherhead atop. They have scored 99 goals and only let in eight.
Wananchi on the other hand have scored 95 and conceded 13. Like Weatherhead, Wananchi will feel confident against their opposition on Sunday.
Titans are placed second last and have only won one game this season. The count for their defeats is 10 thus far. The defending champions should find little resistance in seeing the side off.
Wananchi too can’t afford to let Weatherhead create a point gap if they’re to retain the league. They will be aware of the implications of that when they take to the field on Sunday.
Should Weatherhead falter and Wananchi win, the defending champions will take the top spot.
The other league games in the men’s division will see bottom side KHC Originals face Kampala Stallions, their sister club and Thunder versus City Lions on Sunday.
