The Local Organizing Committee (LOC) for the African Nations Championship (CHAN) has warned fans ahead of the Uganda Cranes’ highly anticipated clash with defending champions Senegal this Saturday at Namboole Stadium.
Speaking at the Uganda Media Centre on Wednesday, Diana Nabuuso, a member of the LOC Communications and Signage Committee, urged supporters to avoid wearing jerseys with offensive or inappropriate inscriptions.
“Fans wearing offensive jerseys, what we call ‘mini’s,’ or any wording that disrespects public image will be stopped at the gates,” Nabuuso said.
“We encourage discipline, respect, and unity from all supporters.”
The warning comes amid a growing trend of fans wearing jerseys branded with viral slang and social media catchphrases from platforms like TikTok and Facebook.
While often humorous, organizers say some messages undermine public decency.
Dr. Dennis K. Mugimba, Chairperson of the LOC Communications and Signage Sub-Committee, also addressed concerns about ticketing and stadium capacity.
He clarified that although Namboole has a 38,000-seat capacity, CAF safety rules require a 4,000-seat buffer.
“The effective sellout number is 34,006 seats,” Dr. Mugimba explained, assuring fans the measure is for safety purposes.
With Uganda Cranes leading their group, excitement is at its peak. The LOC is urging fans to maintain discipline and wear decent jerseys as Uganda hosts one of the tournament’s biggest fixtures.
Organizers also confirmed that Saturday’s quarterfinal kick-off has been rescheduled from 5 PM to 8 PM due to tight tournament scheduling.
