Uganda’s top men’s doubles player Muzafaru Lubega is aiming for an even stronger performance at this year’s City Tyres East Africa Badminton Challenge, promising to arrive in peak form when the tournament begins next month.

Speaking after the launch at Mandela Group headquarters on September 18, Lubega said his build-up will include two major events.

“Last year I won the men’s doubles with Augustus, but this time I’m aiming to do even better,” he told reporters.

“Competing in the Kampala International and the Uganda International will leave me in top shape.”

The 8th edition of the Challenge runs October 16–19 at Lugogo Indoor Arena and is expected to draw more than 1,500 players from Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda, Burundi, DR Congo, Tanzania, and South Sudan. Organizers say prize money will exceed last year’s eight million shillings.

The tournament, backed by the Mandela Group and the Indian Association will feature schools, universities, veterans, media, corporate teams, professionals, and national squads.

With stars like Lubega, Gladys Mbabazi, Kenneth Mwambu, and Tracy Naluwooza confirmed, fans can expect a showcase of East Africa’s best talent.
