Lugazi FC has joined SC Villa and Vipers SC in raising concerns over the newly introduced Uganda Premier League (UPL) format, deepening the controversy around the league’s reforms.

In a statement released Tuesday morning, just hours after Villa and Vipers voiced similar concerns, Lugazi criticized the process behind the changes, calling it rushed and lacking transparency. The club said its contributions during consultations were ignored.

“We’re disappointed with how the reforms were passed,” the statement read. “We submitted our proposals during the consultative meeting, but it’s clear they weren’t considered.”

Lugazi also questioned the speed of implementation, arguing that clubs weren’t given enough time to assess the impact of the changes.

“Reforms of this scale shouldn’t be rushed. They must be inclusive, fair, and transparent for the good of the game.”

KCCA FC is also reportedly unhappy with the new format, though it hasn’t made an official statement.

Despite the growing backlash, the UPL is moving forward, holding the first-round draw on Monday. The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA), which oversees the league, has yet to respond.
