Seasoned forward William Kizito Luwagga is beaming with excitement upon his return to the Uganda Cranes national team setup.

Luwagga, who represented the Cranes at the 2017 and 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon and Egypt, respectively, is back in the fold as Uganda embarks on their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign against Guinea and Somalia.

“It’s always an honor to be called up to the national team,” Luwagga remarked. “I’m always ready and committed to giving my all for my country. I’m delighted to be here and contribute to the team’s success.”

Luwagga believes his experience can play a pivotal role in guiding the team’s transition.

“As an experienced player, I feel a responsibility to set an example for the younger players,” he stated.

“While I haven’t had the chance to play alongside most of them, this is an opportunity for me to share my knowledge and learn from their fresh perspective. We have a strong team, and it’s up to us as players to step up and fulfill our obligations.”

Luwagga also extended a heartfelt appeal to the passionate Ugandan fans.

“ To the fans, I ask you to rally behind us and we promise you to do our best and make you proud.”

The Uganda Cranes will face Guinea on Friday at Stade du Municipal in Berkane, Morocco, before taking on Somalia on November 21.

Uganda is drawn in Group G of the World Cup qualifiers alongside Somalia, Guinea, Algeria, Botswana, and Mozambique.
