FUFA President Moses Magogo has admitted Uganda was outclassed by Algeria in their CHAN 2025 Group C opener on Monday night at Namboole Stadium.
The Cranes fell 3-0 in front of a home crowd, a tough result that exposed the gulf in quality between the two sides.
Uganda is co-hosting this year’s African Nations Championship alongside Kenya and Tanzania, a tournament reserved for home-based players.
Two days later, Magogo took to social media to share an honest reflection:
“Every well-meaning Ugandan wants to see the Cranes beat Algeria,” he posted on X (formerly Twitter). “But let’s be real are our players on the same level?”
He said Uganda’s improvement requires a united national effort, beyond just the federation. “If fans don’t support league games, clubs can’t keep talent. And when players leave for better-paying but weaker leagues, we all lose.”
Despite the setback, Magogo isn’t giving up. “We still have three games. If we win them, we can go through,” he said.
He added that the players are determined to bounce back, and called on fans to rally behind them as they face Guinea on Friday. “Now more than ever, they need your support. Let’s pack Namboole.”
With matches against Guinea, Niger, and South Africa still to come, Uganda’s CHAN journey isn’t over yet.
Algeria may have delivered a wake-up call, but the Cranes still have time and a home crowd to turn things around.
