Makerere University coach Douglas Bamweyana was not a happy man after his side’s 2-1 defeat to Muni University in the University Football League on Saturday in Arua.
Bamweyana claimed that the match officials made unfair decisions that affected his team.
“I’m not an official and even selective in my words because I thought there were a lot of wrong things in this game,” Bamweyana said.
“I thought it was not fair and the second goal should not have stood. I will send a message to UFL management to make sure they organize fair games. This was not fair at all and that’s the only concern I have.”
“Even if I lose 5-0 so long as it’s fair I will leave a happy man since I will know where to improve. The best team was forced to lose and that’s painful. This should not be happening and it needs to be avoided in this country if we want to move forward.”
Makerere had taken the lead through Emma Ekwong in the 42nd minute before Simon Odongo and Francis Agenonga levelled and scored the winner for Muni in the 67th and 87th minutes respectively.
Despite the defeat, Bamweyana said that his side didn’t do enough, especially in the first half, when they missed a lot of chances.
“We had a lot of good chances especially in the first half,” Bamweyana said.
“We should have converted but we failed. So, we also shoot ourselves in the foot. But we shall improve in the next games.”
The result saw Makerere remain top in Group C with nine points while Kyambogo and Muni are second and third with four points each but Kyambogo have a better goal difference. Ndejje is bottom with two points.
Muni coach Ronnie Atiku said that it felt good to win against his former side.
“I feel so happy to win this game,” Atiku said.
“It’s a big CV for me to beat Makerere as a university and also at the same time beating my coach (Bamweyana), the person who trained me in football. So I feel so great about it.”
“This means we can beat anybody. I lost games in Kampala but here in Arua with the 12th man, the fans, I will win all the remaining games and I will qualify.” he concluded.
