On a day painted in red and white for Makerere University Women Football Club as they reigned supreme during the Women Super League Monthly Awards held on Friday, May 23.
The prestigious awards ceremony, designed to celebrate outstanding performers in Ugandan womenโs football, turned into a showcase of Makerereโs dominance in the month of April.
In a stunning display of collective and individual brilliance, Makerere University WFC walked away with the two top accolades, Coach of the Month and Player of the Month, cementing their stature as one of the most formidable sides in the league.
Head Coach Ndawula Fred was honoured with the Coach of the Month award after guiding his team to two victories in April. Despite a narrow loss to Amus College, Ndawulaโs tactical acumen and leadership propelled the university side to a strong run, earning him well-deserved recognition.
But it was forward Namuleme Zainah who truly stole the spotlight. Named Player of the Month, Zainah netted an impressive six goals in just three matches, including a memorable haul against Wakiso Hill.
โIโm thankful to my teammates, without them this wouldnโt happen, the coaches and my manager Medhi who has supported me through it all,โ Zainah shared emotionally, clutching her award.
While Makerere WFC dominated the Super League category, the FUFA Women Elite League also saw its fair share of stars. Jimmy Kintu, head coach of St. Noa Girls, was recognized for a stellar run that saw his team win three and draw one out of four games, conceding just once during the entire stretch.
On the pitch, Akol Faith of Goldstar claimed the Elite League Player of the Month award. With seven goals and two Player of the Match honours to her name in April, her dynamic performances were impossible to ignore.
Her prolific form edged out stiff competition from Belinda Hope Nabawanuka of Kawempe Muslim and Ayoo Miriam of Asubo Ladies.
Reflecting on her success, Akol said, โIt was help from the coaches, players, and fans. They gave me the heart of endurance during training. I got all this from the help of my fellow players, I canโt play alone. Itโs all about discipline and courage.โ
In addition to honouring players and coaches, the event also recognized excellence in sports journalism.
Sharifah Nambi from NTV and Solomon Saaka of NBS TV received the Journalist of the Month accolades, highlighting the critical role media plays in promoting womenโs football.
