The Uganda Boxing Federation Champions League roared back to life on Saturday night at Lugogo Indoor Arena, kicking off Week 5 of Season 4 with fierce competition and unexpected turns in the ring.
Headlining the night was a much-anticipated Light Welterweight (63.5kg) Elite bout between Boggie BC’s Ambayo Patrick and Lukanga’s Farahat Maninora.
Ambayo, a grassroots fighter with growing acclaim, hoped to open his season in style. But it was Maninora who proved sharper, controlling the tempo and claiming a composed win.
“He was strong, and that’s why I couldn’t finish him early,” Maninora said afterward. “But a win is a win.”
Focused and full of confidence, he didn’t hold back.
“I’m taking home this season’s belt. The rest will play catch-up.”
Ambayo, meanwhile, will look to bounce back in his next fight, opponent yet to be confirmed.
But it was the shock in the Light Middleweight (71kg) Elite category that left the arena buzzing. Lukanga’s Bashir “Horse Power” Serugo, making a high-profile return, was outworked by Katabi’s Isaac Kasasa in a 4:1 split decision. Kasasa’s precision and poise carried the day.
“I came for this win,” he said simply.
