Game week two of the 2024 Airtel Masaza Cup tournament rounded off on a mixed note. The outing had some big counties finally register their first victories while others continued to struggle.
Muganzirwazza group
On Sunday 7 July 2024 Ssingo who started with a goalless draw, this time round managed well deserved 4-0 over record champion Gomba.
Ssingo, who started their campaign with a draw, dominated record champions Gomba with a convincing 4-0 victory.


Midfielder Joseph Ssewali led the charge with a brace, followed by goals from Charles Batibwe and Shaban Kayongo. This win propels Ssingo to second place, just two points behind leaders Kyaggwe.
Record champions Gomba, on the other hand, find themselves at the bottom of the group after a second consecutive loss having lost the opening fixture to Kyaggwe by 2-0.
Kyaggwe Maintains Lead
Kyagwe’s expensive recruit from Buwekula county, Yusuf Mukwana, opened his account as he guided his side to a 2-1 win over Mawogoola.
They now lead Muganzirwazza group on 6 points followed by Ssingo, Mawogola ocuppy third place and Buwekula, Kooki, Gomba follow – in that order.
Defending Champions Stumble in Bulange group
In the Bulange group which seems to be the group of death, defending Champions Bulemeezi were on the losing side again.
The Balya Naka lost to Bululi in the tournament opener, and then fell to Bugerere who came from a goal down to secure a 3-1 home win at Ntenjeru.
Wamala Henry, Katamba Simon and Sendi Tony scored for Bugerere County counceling George Masembe’s early goal.


On the other side of Masaka’s Buddu backed on a penalty converted by Joseph Kayondo to beat Kyadondo 1-0 at home.
Onform Bululi registered a second win in row by beating Butambala 2-0 through goals scored by Robert Ssewanyana and Opar Jacob.
Bululi now tops the Bulange group, Bugerere and Butambala in second and third while Buddu and Kyadondo are in fourth and fifth with Bulemeezi at the bottom.

Busujju the team to beat in Masengere Group
On Saturday in Masengere group, Ssese County and Buvuma County played to a 1-1 draw in an all islands encounter. The same scoreline was duplicated in the Mawokota vs Busiro game while Busujju defeated Kabula 3-1.
As it stands now, Busujju leads the group with Kabula in second position ahead of Mawokota. Buvuma and Busiro Counties occupy the fourth and fifth spots respectively with Ssese at the bottom of the group.
The tournament resumes this weekend with six games on the menu in Game Week 3.
