Kyaggwe FC secured a crucial 1-0 victory over Ssingo FC in the 2024 Masaza Cup on September 22, 2024. The win came after a series of unsuccessful attempts against their rivals.
David Mugalu scored the lone goal of the match in the first half, capitalizing on a defensive error from Ssingo. Kyaggwe switched their tactics in the second half, focusing on controlled possession and counter-attacks. This approach proved effective, with Ssingo unable to break down Kyaggwe’s defense.
Godfrey Arijole, Kyaggwe’s defender, was named Man of the Match for his outstanding performance. After receiving the award, Arijole expressed his delight in the team’s victory and emphasized their determination to win the competition.
Kyaggwe’s coach, Steven Mutono, praised his players for the win and urged the fans to support the team in the return fixture. He highlighted the importance of this victory against Ssingo, who had defeated Kyaggwe in the group stage.
Ssingo, on the other hand, attributed their loss to the absence of three key players who were called up for the Uganda Kobs national team.
Ssingo went into the game without Charles Okello Batiibwe, Ryan Figo Kizito and Elvis Ssekajjugo who are in Under 20 national team camp ahead of Africa Under 20 championship.
Coach Simon Peter Mugerwa acknowledged Kyaggwe’s luck but vowed to regroup and overturn the deficit in the return leg in Mityana.
In other matches, Buddu FC defeated Kabula FC 2-0 thanks to goals from Akram Katende and Mike Weraga, while Kyadondo FC beat Busujju FC 1-0 courtesy of a Samuel Kisozi strike.
Buwekula FC also secured a 1-0 win over Mawokota FC in their away fixture played in Buwama. Fahad Aniku scored the only goal of the game.
