Following multiple runs for different players’ signatures, Mawokota unveiled a squad rich in talent, quality and experience.

The squad has Masaza Cup prominent players like last season’s most valuable player, Amur Munjogera, who was captured from Buwekula, key title-winning midfielders Owen Rusongeza and Pius Ssebulime from Buddu.

In addition to widening the squad, Mawokota secured experienced players like Ayiman Twaha Toure, Goalkeeper Abubaker Egesa from Buddu, left-back Nkonge Saziri and others.

With highly talented recognisable players, the squad further has towering forwards in South Sudanese forward duo of Santos Agok Muryiel and Irivai Mamur.

Others include defenders Reagan Isabirye, Akram Katende, Felix Wafula, attacking Midfielders Bruno Mukwaya, George Insingoma and George Kato.

The team will be handled by a strong coaching staff led by David Mutono Katono who has been a significant figure every time he turns up to lead a Masaza Cup team, with last season guiding Kyaggwe to their first ever final where he lost to Buddu.

Mutono will be assisted by Hamid Kibirango while Ali Kiggundu will guide the Goalkeeping department but the biggest fear factor of the team is Patron Dr Lawrence Mulindwa, a man who is ever hungry for trophies.

The unveiling was held on Sunday, June 15 at Mawokota home ground Buwama Police and the team played a 1-1 draw friendly game against Busiro Ssaza team while Mawokota County Chief Sarah Nannono Kaweesi was officially launching the title hunt for her overseeing county.

Mawokota will start their campaign on Sunday, June 29 against last season’s bronze winner Buwekula as the first game of Masengere Group.

The group has six teams, including Mawokota, Buwekula, Buvuma Kyadondo, Bugerere and Bulemeezi and five of the six teams have ever reached the Masaza Cup final, except Buvuma.

The group has combined seven Masaza Cup titles with Mawokota and Bulemeezi tied on three, Kyadondo with one, Buwekula has lost two finals, while Bugerere last reached the final in 2006.

The competition, which starts this weekend with a big clash between defending champions Buddu and record champions Gomba, has 18 teams split into three groups, where the leading two groups shall progress to the quarterfinals along with the two best third-placed teams across the groups.
