Week 4 of the Masaza Cup witnessed exciting games but was unfortunately marred by incidents of fan violence. While all matches were played to completion, unruly behavior from some supporters overshadowed positive performances on the pitch.
Bulemeezi Loses at Home, Fans Turn Violent
Bulemeezi suffered their third defeat in four games, falling 2-0 to visiting Kyadondo. This loss triggered unacceptable behavior from a section of Bulemeezi fans who attacked Kyadondo supporters. Team management strongly condemned these actions, emphasizing that celebrating a goal is a normal part of the game.
“Attacking an innocent group of fans is an act of hooliganism and it indicates that some people are not coming to support football. We are assuring them that in not too long they will have to pay for their acts and it will be individually.” read a statement.
Kyadondo secured their second win of the campaign, thanks to goals from Samuel Monday Kisozi and Isaac Ssenyunja. This victory puts them on 7 points, just one point behind group leaders Bululi, who drew 0-0 with Buddu.
Butambala and Bugerere played out a 1-1 draw in the other Bulage group fixture.
Ssingo Top Scorers on Fire in Muganzirwazza Group
Ssingo maintained their lead in the Muganzirwazza group with a 2-0 victory over Kyaggwe, a game which also saw acts of hooliganism with fans throwing objects to the pitch at different occasions.
Joseph Ssewaali and Shaban Kayongo netted for Ssingo, extending their lead in the race for the golden boot with three goals each.
Gomba bounced back from a poor start with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Kooki. This result lifts them from the bottom of the table to 5th place. Mubende based county, Buwekula, also secured their first win of the competition,defeating Mawogola 3-0.
Kabula Leads Masengere Group
In Masengere group there were only two games with Kabula asserted their dominance with a 1-0 win against Mawokota. Busujju drew 1-1 with Ssese, leaving Kabula top of the table with 9 points.
Busujju is second on 8 points while Mawokota is third on 5 points. Buvuma occupies fourth on three points from 3 games and while winless they are yet to concede a goal. Busiro and Ssese are the bottom teams with the latter counting 2 points and the former 1.
The match between Busiro and Buvuma is scheduled for Sunday 4 August 2024.
Looking Ahead to Matchday 5
The Masaza Cup competition resumes on the weekend of 26-27 July with nine fixtures scheduled. All eyes will be on whether fan behavior improves alongside the exciting on-field competition.
