Titans finally ended their winless run in dramatic fashion on Thursday morning at Lakeside Oval in Entebbe, scraping past the Warriors by one wicket in a tense, low scoring affair in Day 5 of the Batball MAXX T20 Challenge Cup.
Later in the afternoon, the Blasters produced a composed all round display to hand the Gladiators their first defeat of the tournament, tightening the race in a rare rain free double header.
- Warriors 121/9 in 20 Overs (Ronald Lutaaya 40, Steven Wabwose 35; Enock Kasaija 3/24)
- Titans 122/9 in 19.4 Overs (Conrad Lubwama 55, Ismail Munir 20; Baguma Joseph 4/31)
Titans won by 1 wicket
The Titans made perfect use of the morning conditions, ripping through the Warriors’ top order with a fiery new-ball burst that left them staggering at 4/3 inside two overs.
Ronald Lutaaya steadied things with a fighting 40 off 34, guiding the Warriors to 35/3 by the end of the powerplay.
Steven Wabwose (35 off 39) and Christopher Kidega (19 off 16) added important runs, but regular breakthroughs kept the Titans in control.
Jaffer Ochaya (2/14) and Enock Kasaija (3/24) led the charge as the Warriors were limited to 121/9.
The chase was far from smooth. The Titans lost early wickets and leaned heavily on Conrad Lubwama, whose classy 55 off 48 held the chase together. But with wickets tumbling and the score at 77/5 after 13 overs, nerves crept back in.
Those nerves peaked in the final over. Needing six to win with two wickets left, the Titans lost Kasaija to a run-out off the first ball. One wicket in hand, tension everywhere.
Siraje Nsubuga and Jordan Okecho, however, stayed calm. With simple, smart strokes, they inched Titans to 122/9 with two balls to spare, securing a much needed and emotional first win.
- Blasters 134/7 in 20 Overs (Kenneth Waiswa 34, Abraiz Mir Ali 28; Edwin Nuwagaba 3/11)
- Gladiators 110/8 in 20 Overs (Brian Asaba 33, Gerald Olipa 13; Yashashvi Joshi 2/20)
Blasters won by 24 runs
In the afternoon, the Gladiators chose to bowl and were immediately on top as the Blasters crashed to 13/3 within three overs.
Kenneth Waiswa and Abraiz Mir Ali rebuilt with a crucial 56-run stand, shifting momentum back. Waiswa made a composed 34 before falling in the 11th over.
The Blasters continued to piece together small but valuable partnerships, finishing with a strong unbeaten 26 run push from Colline Abong and Mathew Musinguzi to reach 134/7.
The Gladiators’ reply never settled. Cyrus Kunsa fell for a duck, and although Suleman Sharif and Gerald Olipa briefly steadied the innings, the pressure kept mounting.
A promising 38-run stand between Brian Asaba (33 off 27) and Paul Mulongo gave the chase life, but once it ended, the innings fizzled.
Late resistance from Dan Keith Amani and Omara Ronald added 26, but disciplined spells from Edwin Nuwagaba (3/11) and Yashashvi Joshi (2/20) shut the door.
The Gladiators finished on 110/8, falling 24 runs short and losing their perfect record.
