Gladiators won by 19 runs
Gladiators stretched their unbeaten run on Day 3 of the MAXX T20 Challenge Cup with a determined 19 run win over the Titans on Monday afternoon, a result that again showed why they look like the side to beat this season.
What began as a routine outing quickly turned tricky.
Gladiators slumped to 42 for 4 inside eight overs after a fiery spell from Enock Kasaija, who removed openers Suleman Sharif and Brian Asaba, before skipper Gerald Olipa and Ronald Omara also fell cheaply.
At that point, Titans were in full control and the unbeaten streak looked in danger.
Everything changed when Dan Keith Amani arrived at the crease. Calm and composed, he rebuilt the innings with smart, risk-free batting, finishing unbeaten on 59 from 47 balls.
Paul Mulongo offered solid support with 44 from 36, and together they lifted the Gladiators to a fighting 144 for 5.
Titans’ chase started poorly with Amos Ahura gone to the second ball. Conrad Lubwama and Ronald Magezi tried to steady things, but regular wickets left them reeling at 61 for 5.
A determined stand between Ismail Munir (38 off 32) and Geofrey Kakaire (20 off 16) gave Titans a late push and forced Gladiators to stay alert at the death.
Jonathan Kizza delivered when it mattered most. His 3 for 17 stopped the comeback, and disciplined bowling at the back end limited Titans to 125 for 7.
Amani was named Player of the Match for his match saving knock, the calm he brought at a moment when the game looked to be slipping away.
Gladiators remain the only unbeaten side in the competition and carry that momentum into Wednesday’s clash with the Strikers.
Wednesday’s action opens with Blasters against Royals in the morning, before Strikers try to become the first team to halt the Gladiators’ flawless run.
