Uganda Premier League side Mbale Heroes Football Club are currently seven months into their top flight return.
With an idea of having another community based Club like Onduparaka and Kitara, many thought the Surgeons would be no different.
However a lot has happened in the last few months from the players citing living in poor conditions, poor feeding and changing of Coaches.
The Club has had three Head Coaches so far this season with former KCCA FC assistant Richard Malinga before Asaph Mwebaze’s return and now Wamboya Mubarak on interim basis was recently leading Kibuli United in the 4th Division.
In an interview with SportsNation TV, Mwebaze mentioned some of reasons why Mbale Heroes wouldn’t compete;
“Mbale Heroes players don’t train,” he stated.
“I have been training with Seven (7) players but someone on the outside just stands on a far and asks for a result”
“There is a part of the team led by Magambo that pays players not to turn up for the training sessions and go home.”
“In Mbale we were always in a camp but you would later find out a player is in Kampala while others are training and I would say that i have never missed a day of training with my staff, Coach Ssebagala, Sseka and doctor both day and night.” Mwebaze continued
“For example Like they are going to play on Thursday, on Sunday you have 7 players with 5 defenders among those. What are you going to train them? Even at times without a goal keeper.”
“And they (the players), two and Four would return on Monday and Tuesday respectively therefore I reached an extent where I couldn’t ask because you could ask a player he would go back,” he concluded.
Mbale Heroes who started the campaign with an impressive performance against Express FC despite loss
They currently sit 15th on the UPL table with 9 points and have only won twice, both (1-0) at home against Bright Stars and SC Villa.
Wamboya will begin interim tenure on Thursday 2nd January 2025 away against Maroons Football Club at the Luzira Prison Grounds.
