Former Express FC assistant coach Mike Mutyaba is among five people provisionally suspended from football following allegations of match-fixing in an Uganda Premier League game.
The action was taken by the Investigatory Chamber of the Federation of Uganda Football Associations Ethics and Disciplinary Committee after suspicions emerged around the league match between Kitara FC and Express played on December 21, 2024.
FUFA said the investigation started after a betting integrity report from FIFA flagged suspicious activity linked to the fixture.
The report suggested there had been prior knowledge that Express would lose heavily, with betting patterns indicating the team was expected to concede at least five goals.
The game ended 7-0 in favour of Kitara. George Ssenkaaba scored a hat-trick, Jude Ssemugabi netted twice, while Fred Amaku and David Ndihabwe added a goal each.
Preliminary findings claim Mutyaba coordinated the suspected plan together with Ivan Katende, who has previously been linked to match-fixing investigations. The pair are also said to have worked with former Express chief executive Ashraf Miiro.
Investigators say betting accounts connected to Katende placed wagers through a betting company in Tanzania. The accounts reportedly won large sums before the operator blocked the payouts after detecting irregular betting patterns.
The probe has also pointed to the possible involvement of Express players Emmanuel Kalyowa and Ashraf Mbazira, who are alleged to have influenced events on the pitch.
Authorities further claim Mutyaba handled match-day technical decisions, taking advantage of the absence of Express head coach Badru Kaddu.
FUFA has engaged the Criminal Investigations Directorate to support the investigation.
As a precaution, Mutyaba, Miiro, Kalyowa, Mbazira and Katende have been suspended from all football activities until disciplinary proceedings are completed.
FUFA has also urged clubs, players and other stakeholders not to engage with the individuals while investigations continue, stressing the need to protect the integrity of the game.
