Uganda Rugby is packing bags this weekend and heading for Tororo for the Mileke Border 7s, the National Sevens calendar penultimate round in 2023.

The Tororo Mileke Border 7s are a celebration of the extended support that the Mileke lineage has bestowed upon Ugandan rugby, currently in the name of three boys – Aredo Joseph, Aredo Gabriel, and Aredo Erasmus – involved deeply in Uganda rugby activities.

This will be the third edition of the Mileke 7s after the 2022 edition that was scheduled to take place at Legends Rugby Grounds was cancelled.

It is a home circuit for Aredo Joseph, who will be looking to inspire a second-string KOBs side to victory at home – either cut the gap or surpass Pirates again, and also increase the gap between themselves and Heathens.

Heathens Favorites?

The Platinum Credit Heathens go to the East as the team to beat, having recovered from the Tooro 7s blooper to claim their home circuit, Kyadondo 7s.

The Heathens have been drawn against the other Kyadondo side, Buffaloes, and will be on course to improve their record in the Kyadondo derby.

Still in group A, Heathens have to deal with protection advocates Rams and home side Tororo Crest.

Pool B sees the table leaders Stanbic Black Pirates have drawn against the arrogant side from Makerere, the Impis and will look for a pristine record in the pool stages to affirm their position in charge.

In group B are also the Elgon Wolves, who battled with heart for a spot in the promotion playoff, and Njeru Hurricanes.

Group C will be headlined by the most improved team on the calendar, the Rhinos, who finished third at the Kyadondo 7s just last weekend.

They will be the most formidable team in the way of homeboy Joseph Aredo and the KOBs on day 1.

The KOBs will be looking to get their campaign back on track with a good record on day 1 but will still have to go through the fire-breathing Walukuba Barbarians and the Mbale Elephants.

Mongers headline Pool D and will be up against the defending champions, Jinja Hippos, with the latter coming out second in most of the battles this year.

The Hippos are trying to save their title defence with just two editions left this year but will need to go through the Warriors – led by homeboy Gabriel Aredo, and the Walukuba Trojans.

With just two circuits left, Pearls are feeling the Avengers breathing heavily down their necks and will be looking to make a statement if they are to defend their title and become back-to-back National Women’s Sevens Champions again.
