Minister of Youth, Sports and Arts, Sserwanga to officially open Ggombolola Cup 2026 edition

As Buganda Kingdom enrolls into the 2026 calendar, the Minister of Youth, Sports and Arts, Owek. Robert Sserwanga Ssaalongo is set to grace the opening of the 2026 Ggombolola Cup this Saturday, February 14th, at Kasana Playgrounds in Ssaza Buweekula.

Luweekula Cup, named after the official title of the Ssaza Chief of Buweekula, is the starting point for a tournament organised across the 18 Masaza and localised to the official title of the Ssaza chief, and attracting up to 175 teams across the board.

In the opening fixture of Luweekula Cup, Mutuba I Kitenga will play Musaale Kiyuuni at 3:00 pm as this year’s event anticipates participants in Football, Netball, and Mweso as the main events.

Minister Robert Sserwanga Ssaalongo is expected to arrive in Buweekula on Friday, February 13th, to tour income-generating projects by the youth and witness the swearing-in of youth leaders at the Ggombolola level prior to the official Ggombolola Cup opening.

Action on the 14th will start at 11:00 am with a football match between Mumyuka Bageza and Ssaabagabo Kasambya, leading to the official opening match of the third edition of Ggombolola Cup, which was introduced for grassroots sports development in Buganda Kingdom since the year 2024.
