National Basketball League (Women) | Friday
- Miracle Eaglets 58-52 UPDF Lady Tomahawks
The Miracle Eaglets showcased resilience and composure on Friday night as they secured a narrow 58-52 victory over the UPDF Lady Tomahawks in a closely contested National Basketball League (NBL) women’s clash
The game tipped off under the bright lights of the Lugogo Indoor Arena, it was anything but not a bright start for the Lady Tomahawks, who struggled to find their rhythm early on.
They managed just 14 points in the first half, trailing 27-14 at the break as the Eaglets tightened their defence and capitalized on scoring opportunities.
Despite the sluggish start, the Lady Tomahawks began to claw their way back into the game in the third quarter.
Led by Stella Maris Lunkuse, who notched a standout double-double with 15 points and 17 rebounds, they narrowed the gap to seven points heading into the final period.
The fourth quarter saw end-to-end action as both teams turned up the intensity. However, Miracle Eaglets held firm with Winniefred Akello leading the charge.
Akello also posted a double-double, tallying 12 points and 14 rebounds while Mariam Namukwaya (15 points) and Brenda Alyano (14 points) provided crucial offensive support.
Though the Lady Tomahawks mounted a late push, the Eaglets maintained composure to seal the six-point win, maintaining their top spot in the league and boosting confidence moving forward.
Coach Arnold Katabi’s side will take plenty of positives from the performance, particularly their ability to control the tempo and withstand pressure late in the game.
For Coach Alex Onen’s Tomahawks, the strong finish offers hope but the slow start proved too much to overcome.
