Former SC Villa president Joseph Muguluma Mbazzi aka Immanuel Ben Misagga has said he will not pick contest in the club’s upcoming elections, citing concerns over what he described as a lack of transparency in the process.
Misagga believes the election process is already tilted in favour of one candidate and says he cannot take part in such circumstances.
“I can’t be party to an election process that is surely not transparent,” Misagga said. “In the first place, the vetting committee has already shown partiality towards one candidate and no sane person would invest in such a process.”
He added that it would make no sense to spend large sums of money on an election he does not trust.
“It would be foolhardy to waste 100 million in a process like that and for that reason, I am not standing,” he added.
The remarks come after the electoral committee chaired by Brian Kajuba confirmed that five individuals had already picked nomination forms to contest for the presidency of SC Villa.
Those who have collected forms include the incumbent Omar Ahmed Hussein, Farouq Meywa, Denis Mbidde Ssebugwawo, Simeon Buleezi Kawuma and Joseph Muguluma Mbazzi, who reportedly picked his forms through an agent.
Misagga served as Villa president from 2014 to 2018 before falling out with Federation of Uganda Football Associations over what the federation described as administrative irregularities.
When Omar Ahmed Hussein took office in November 2021, he appointed Misagga as vice president in charge of mobilization.
Meanwhile, the electoral committee has asked all candidates who picked nomination forms to return them by Saturday, the official deadline for submission ahead of the elections.
