Uganda’s representatives at the ongoing African Individual Chess Championships registered mixed results in their opening three rounds in Accra, Ghana.

Fide Master Harold Wanyama and Peninah Nakabo, the two that narrowly missed out on medals at the African Games, each pawned off the competition with two victories in the first two rounds but the duo each suffered defeats in the following round.

Wanyama, the country’s only male representative, lost to the Continent’s top seed Amin Bassem in the third round while Nakabo fell to Zimbabwe’s Shaba Linda Dalitso.

Uganda took only two players for the African Games, but Safinah Mugide and Shebah Valentine Naisanga joined the team for the Individuals.

Both players are yet to register a win, but the former has a point to her name owing to the two draws she’s recorded thus far, with the latest stalemate coming against Naisanga.

Naisanga has 0.5 points, and it came against her fellow Ugandan.

Both Wanyama and Nakabo will look to bounce back in the fourth round when they face Kennedy Onokpite (Nigeria) and Senegal’s Marochkina Valerevna respectively.

Mugide and Naisanga meanwhile will seek for their first wins. The former will meet Eritrea’s Abraham Sosna Mehari while the latter will take on Susan Namangale from Malawi.
