The Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) is expanding its popular Ball Games II competition to create more participation opportunities for students across the country, in different zones.

This exciting development was announced by USSSA president Justus Mugisha during a report on the first half of 2024. The Brief was held on Wednesday 26 June at USSSA headquarters located at Old Kampala.

Split Qualifications Open Doors:

Previously, Ball Games events, which is the largest championship that brings together over over 8,000 participants and officials were held as a single championship. Now, the USSSA has divided them into two categories:

Plascon

FEASSA Qualifiers: These qualifiers will run from July 16th to 17th and feature Netball (girls only), Basketball 3×3, Volleyball, Rugby 7s, Handball, Athletics, and Cross Country for both boys and girls.

Non-FEASSA Qualifiers: Following the FEASSA qualifiers in July, the USSSA will introduce a new platform for non-FEASSA schools. This expanded program will include:

New Disciplines: Mind Games (Ludo, Chess, and Scrabble) will be introduced for the first time.

Reintroduced Sports: Basketball 3×3, Netball, Volleyball, Handball, and Major Basketball will be brought back, reaching new grassroots communities.

Expanded Age Groups: Under-16 categories for boys and girls (except Netball) will be added, joining the existing Under-16 and Under-14 Football competitions.

Event Details:

The Non-FEASSA Games Qualifiers will be a nine-day event held from September 1st to 9th at Teso College Aloet, the same venue as the July FEASSA qualifiers.

With a variety of disciplines and age categories, the USSSA is creating a platform for students of all abilities to discover and develop their sporting talents.
