Uganda Cranes interim coach Morley Byekwaso is impressed with the competitiveness among his players ahead of their friendly matches against Mali and Zambia.
Byekwaso took over the Cranes interim job after Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic and FUFA decided to part ways.
The former KCCA coach believes the build up matches will also prepare the team for the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers slated for next month .
“The players have been living up to task in the training sessions but I expect even more competitiveness in the friendly games. We want to make sure we utilize these build up matches very well,” noted Byekwaso.
“These friendly games are going to prepare the team ahead of World Cup Qualifiers and 2025 AFCON Qualifiers that will start soon. They will also give more players exposure,” he added.
Uganda is in Group G of the World Cup Qualifiers with Algeria, Guinea, Mozambique, Botswana, and Somalia.
Uganda and Algeria will be facing off again in back to back competitions. The two sides were in the same group during the 2023 AFCON Qualifiers and Algeria beat Uganda home (2-1) and away (2-0).
