Mountains of the Moon University (MMU) launched their University Football League campaign with a composed 0โ€“0 draw away to the University of Kisubi (UNIK) on Saturday.

In their first-ever league match, the Fort Portal side absorbed early pressure before taking control after halftime.

UNIK had the best early chances but couldnโ€™t break through MMUโ€™s disciplined defence.

Goalkeeper Amos Kizito kept the hosts level with four key second-half saves as MMU pressed for a winner.

โ€œWe played well and managed a draw,โ€ MMU head coach Nyakairu Solomon said. โ€œOur target is the quarter-finals, and weโ€™ll work with the university to get there.โ€

UNIK coach Jessy Lukoki admitted his team failed to capitalise. โ€œWe had chances to win but didnโ€™t take them. Their aerial play tested us, but a point isnโ€™t bad to start with,โ€ he noted.

Both sides sit level in Group A, which also includes defending champions Uganda Martyrs University and two-time winners Kampala University, who drew 0โ€“0 on Thursday.

League action continues Sunday when Kampala International University hosts Mbarara University of Science and Technology at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo.
