Lugazi FC have turned to experienced coach Simon Peter Mugerwa to halt their slide, confirming his appointment on a one-year contract.
The CAF A-licensed tactician replaces Steven Bogere and Francis Mugerwa, who were dismissed earlier this week after a poor run of results left the Leaders hovering near the bottom of the Uganda Premier League table.
Mugerwa brings a broad coaching résumé. He started the season at Mbarara City but left in November, and is best remembered for guiding Police FC to promotion to the top flight in a single season before departing in April 2025.
His career also includes stints at Fire Masters, SC Villa, Soltilo Bright Stars and Proline FC, as well as work in the Masaza Cup and National Schools Championships.
“We are pleased to announce the appointment of Simon Peter Mugerwa as head coach of our senior men’s team with immediate effect,” Lugazi said in a statement.
The club also confirmed the arrival of Robert Ssekweyama as assistant coach on a one-year deal.

Ssekweyama adds valuable experience, having served as an assistant at SC Villa, Express, Maroons, Wakiso Giants, Police FC and Mbarara City. The rest of Mugerwa’s backroom staff will be named later.
The challenge ahead is clear. Lugazi sit 14th with 10 points from 11 matches, a position that has unsettled fans and officials.
Mugerwa’s focus will be on steadying performances and pulling the team away from danger.
He will have little time to ease in, with his first test expected to come away to NEC FC on January 7, 2026, at Lugogo, a match that could quickly define the tone of his reign.
