Uganda Cranes and KCCA FC lethal striker Muhammad Shaban Jagason is our star ⭐️ of the day.

The date is March 17 2018, and we are in the 46th minute at Lugogo. After a goalless draw in the 1st leg, KCCA FC just need any win against Ethiopia’s St George to write history by becoming the first Ugandan Club to qualify for the CAF Champions League group stages.

Playmaker Muzamiru Mutyaba starts a short corner to Kizza Mustafa’s path, and the roving left back whips in a lofty delivery in the crowded box.

Shaban senses the opportunity and rises highest to nod in a glancing header that leaves goalkeeper Robert Odongkara stunned. The young striker wheels away in celebration as all players join him in the corner amidst wild celebrations from the fans.

And KCCA FC holds on to seal a 1-0 win, thanks to Shaban’s goal, to storm the lucrative stage of the Competition.

About 6 months later, after the deal to join Orlando Pirates FC hit a dead end, Shaban secures a deal to join Moroccon giants Raja Casablanca.

The move was expected to be the start of the striker’s journey to more greater things, may be a deal to one of Europe’s top 5 leagues.

Shaban had already proved his worth having led the scoring charts for KCCA a season back with 18 goals including hitting 4 against URA in a 7-2 demolition.

The wonder kid from Arua was also the top-scorer at the 2018 COSAFA U20 Championship that included a brace against Zambia.

But the move to Raja turned out to be one to forget. His only goal for Raja was the 5th on the day against Gabon’s Mberi Sportif in a CAF Confederation Cup first leg played at the Stade Mohammed V in Casablanca, where he had seven appearances.

Shaban’s return to Uganda

On August 7th 2019, the striker was unveiled by local giants Vipers SC. It took just 8 minutes into his debut, which was delayed for a season due to a knee ligament injury, for Shaban to make his long wait worthwhile as he nodded in a Dissan Galiwango corner against Wakiso Giants FC.

But that proved to be his only goal in a Vipers shirt, going on to play just 7 more games at the club before his contract was ended by mutual consent.

When everything seemed beyond repair for Shaban, the mercurial striker returned home at Onduparaka FC to rebuild his career. He fired blanks in the opening 6 games of the season.

Shaban finally got his first, against Express FC, in the 8th minute of the game from close range. He ran to celebrate in the corner and made a summersault with relief and joy after getting a monkey off his back.

Shaban, started to play with more purpose and drive, and went on to notch 14 more goals in the UPL.

His goals were timely as Onduparaka who were having a shocker of a season were saved by the striker’s massive show as he wreaked havoc on the league’s elite defences.

The 2016 Airtel FUFA Player of the year then returned to KCCA for his second stint, signing a 2-year deal with the Kasasiro boys in 2022.

Shaban is KCCA’s top scorer this season with 8 league goals, behind only Wakiso Giants captain Nelson Senkatuka who leads the log with 10 strikes.

Shaban’s journey has been one of highs and lows, but he is now back at the top of his game and made a return to the senior national team in the recent 2-0 win for the Uganda Cranes against Kuwait in an international friendly played on 19th January 2024.

This means more!
