Ivan Muhwezi announced his arrival in style as the Namuwongo Blazers maintained their unbeaten run in the National Basketball League with a commanding 83-57 victory over KCCA Panthers on Wednesday night at Lugogo Indoor Arena.
Before tip-off, the Blazers unveiled their latest acquisitions, Anthony Chukwuebuka and Muhwezi in a bold statement of intent as they looked to strengthen an already formidable roster. And it didn’t take long for the debutant to make his mark.

The Blazers set the tone early, ending the first quarter 18-11 after Davis Assimwe’s buzzer-beating three-pointer. By halftime, they had stretched their lead to 42-20, thanks in part to a deep three from Moses Mugisha.
KCCA Panthers showed more fight in the third quarter, but the Blazers remained in control, holding a 60-39 lead heading into the final period.
With the game all but won, Muhwezi had the final word. His long-range three-pointer closed out the 26-point victory, capping off a memorable debut and sending the home crowd into a frenzy.
Joel Lukoji led all scorers with 16 points, supported by Innocent Ochera (12) and James Okello (10).
KCCA’s Ivan Lumanyika was their only player to reach double figures, finishing with 10 points.
