The inaugural Mukono T20 Cup got off to an exciting start on Thursday, November 20, as Lugazi Trekkers defeated Kayunga Titans by 21 runs at Florida Oval in Nkokonjeru.
In a game of reduced overs, Batting first, the Trekkers recovered from an early setback to post 104 for 1 in 10 overs.
Opener Ahura Amos fell for just 2, caught by Asaba Brian, but Jaffer Ochaya and captain Christopher Kidega dominated the innings with an unbeaten 102-run partnership.
Ochaya scored 41 off 25 balls, including three boundaries and two sixes, while Kidega added a polished 50 off 33 deliveries.
Their partnership gave the Trekkers strong momentum heading into the break.
Kayunga’s bowlers toiled but struggled to contain the runs. Asaba Brian claimed the only wicket, while the Trekkers capitalized on 10 wides in the middle overs.
Chasing 105, the Titans looked dangerous early. Asaba Brian and Martin Bwogi raced to 55 without loss in five overs.
Bwogi blasted 31 off 17 balls with three sixes, and Asaba contributed 21 from 14.
But the chase fell apart after Jaffer Ochaya removed Bwogi and Alijuna Fortunate in quick succession.
Akena Innocent’s brilliant 3 for 8 dismantled the middle order, leaving Kayunga struggling at 71 for 5.
Despite late resistance from Lwanga Brain and Chadia Alex, the Titans could only reach 83 for 5.
Jaffer finished with 2 for 17, while Akena’s spell proved decisive.
Lugazi Trekkers’ 21-run win sends a clear message as the Mukono T20 Cup kicks off.
Their balanced performance with bat and ball sets the tone for a competitive tournament.
