Mulago Kings ascended to the top of the table thanks to their 4.5-1.5 win over Soroti Chess Club in the seventh classical round of the Premier Bet Uganda Chess League 2023.
The Premier Bet National Chess League 2023 has a total of 48 teams competing in 14 rounds from 2023/07/16 to 2023/11/26. The matches were hosted by at Nob View Hotel, Ntinda.
Soroti who had FM Walter Okas in their line up were the table leaders heading into this round, but Mulago Kings Chess Club who occupied second eased past them.
FM Harold Wanyama outwitted Okas on board one. On board two, Peter Majur Manyang beat Fred Okiring while Haruna Garba, Innocent Tamale also bested their opponents.
Mulago Kings lost just one board; board five. Bogere Kabanda beat Michelle Hailey Nio on that board. Olympian Milly Takali drew with Sheba Naisanga on board five.
The other top game of the round saw Kireka A outwit their sister club Kireka Panthers in a game which turned out to be a one-sided affair as the record winners won it by 5.5-0.5.
FM Patrick Kawuma who was featuring for Kireka for the first time this season saw off Gong Thong Gong on board one.
David Muwanguzi, Emmanuel Musasizi, Peninah Nakabo and Mary Kevin Ndagire outdid their opponents while Bob Bibasa drew against Mike Akabo.
The win took Kireka A to the second position. Kireka Panthers are demoted to the fifth position.
SOM Katwe‘s 4-2 win over Crestals sees them go fourth.
