Kassim Murungi will captain the Uganda Bombers as they head to Nairobi, Kenya, for the Africa Zone 3 Boxing Championship, a new chapter for the national boxing team.
The tournament, sanctioned by the African Boxing Confederation (ABC) and the International Boxing Association (IBA), runs from October 16th to 24th, 2025, featuring top fighters from across the continent.
Uganda will compete alongside hosts Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, DRC, Burundi, Ethiopia, Somalia, Gabon, Congo Brazzaville, Central African Republic, and Cameroon.
Uganda’s squad includes 16 boxers;11 men and 5 women, all drawn from the local Champions League, a breeding ground for homegrown talent.
The women’s team features Brenda Muduwah (50kg), Angel Katushabe (52kg), Fatuma Nabikolo (57kg), Erina Namutebi (63kg), and Emily Tina Nakalema (66kg).
Murungi (57kg) leads the men’s lineup that includes Emmanuel Tabula Tusabe (92kg), Aziz Ringo (92kg), Samuel Ochen (54kg), Alfred Ojok (75kg), Alex Kanabi (71kg), Edward Mukwaya (67kg), Farahat Maninora (63.5kg), Jimmy Adiko (60kg), Livingstone Matovu (52kg), and Ahmed Kato Kazibwe (48kg).
This will be Murungi’s first stint as captain, a role he takes on with pride as the Bombers seek to make a strong statement in Nairobi.
“It’s an honor for me to Captain this team, this may not be my first skipper role since am already Captain at East Coast, so I take this with pride and will do my best to make the team better”
“On the Championship, it hasn’t been the easiest on preparations but happy we tried to get over the line and now it’s our turn to deliver “

The team is coached by Lawrence Kalyango, assisted by Abdul Tebazalwa.

The Bombers were officially flagged off on Tuesday at the National Hockey Grounds, Lugogo, and departed for Kenya later that evening.
