Birongo FC secured their place in the round of 32 of the Mutalaga Christmas Cup after a decisive 3-0 victory over Pennensula FC on Wednesday, August 28th, in a group D encounter at Lweza playground.
Muzafar Lwanga’s brace and a goal from Iniesta Nsubuga propelled Birongo FC to second place in Group D. Despite both teams having 6 points, Birongo FC’s superior goal difference ensured their advancement. Pennensula have played all their games.
Mayinja FC, currently leading Group D with 9 points, will also advance to the knockout stage. However, both Mayinja FC and Birongo FC still have one more group match to play.
Out of the 16 groups in the tournament, only two teams have managed to reach the competition’s knockout stage, both from group D. In the same group Christal FC beat Kitovu United 2-0 with Yakub Sulaiman Bobic netting both goals.
The competition shall continue on Thursday 29 August 2024 with two more games from group E, both at Lweza play ground. Kajjansi Progressive take on Najja Water at 2:00pm, while the in the late kickoff, at 4:00pm, Infantry will host Co-operative Garage.
