The KCB KOBs came out of the Legends Derby against the Rhinos 19-12 winners to bring an abrupt halt to the Rhinos’ unbeaten start to the championship.
The KOBs scored three tries, with rookie Muwanguzi Benjamin grabbing a brace and Arinaitwe Karim grabbing the other.
KCB KOBs were quick out of the blocks and onto the scoreboard with Benjamin taking advantage of a scrum to use the 8th man pick and stretch for the line within the first five minutes. Josiah Ssempeke converted to make it a full score.
Ivan Kirabo would later put the Rhinos on the board too. Kirabo scored another penalty to bring the Rhinos within one point but Muwanguzi was back on the scoresheet in a similar fashion to the first score, and Ssempeke added the extras to send the KOBs ahead 14-06 at the break.
The second stanza was a lot tougher, strewn with handling errors. Arinaitwe Karim put the icing on the cake to complete a wonderful backline move to score in the corner and certainly confirm the win for the KOBs despite two more penalties from Ivan Kirabo.
The loss means that no team will finish the first round with a 100% record as Rhinos held the only remaining winning streak in the championship.
Heathens are still unbeaten but have a draw against the Hippos, to dent the hopes of 100% success.
