Ugandan Germany-based boxer Muzamir “DeReal KingKong” Kakande delivered a stunning knockout to defeat Britain’s Kevin Reavell and win the Commonwealth Boxing Council Silver Super Championship in Brentwood, United Kingdom.
Kakande, known for his calculated aggression and heavy punches, floored Reavell with a decisive knockout to secure his first international title. Bursting with joy after the fight, he couldn’t hide his excitement:
“Oh, I feel good, so good! And the new! This is just the beginning my collection has started,” Kakande said.
“Now I’m coming for the full Commonwealth title. Sam, my friend, King Kong is coming. Nowhere to hide. Let’s do it!”
Kakande credited his victory to patience and precision.
“From the start, I said I’d squeeze him and that’s exactly what I did,” he explained.
“My team and I had a simple plan: easy, easy, slowly, slowly, until we got him where we wanted him. It worked perfectly. When you have a good team, everything falls into place.”
Kakande’s path to this triumph hasn’t been easy. The 2017 African Games welterweight gold medalist revealed he quit his job to focus on boxing, enduring financial struggles along the way.
“This game is tough without a sponsor,” he admitted. “I had to leave my job and fully commit to training. Thanks to BoxSpec, who raised money for my camp, I was able to prepare. Now, I believe sponsors will start coming.”
Since turning professional in 2021, Kakande has fought 12 times, winning nine, including six knockouts, with one loss and one draw. Earlier this year, he knocked down British prospect Dan Toward, promising to claim the Commonwealth title, a promise he has now fulfilled.
But he says this is only the beginning:
“I’m going for the world title next,” Kakande declared, naming the WBC, WBA, and IBF belts among his targets.
Before going pro, Kakande was a knockout specialist at Kalinabiri Boxing Club and the UPDF boxing team.
He remains Uganda’s last boxing gold medalist at a major international competition, winning at the 2017 African Games in Brazzaville.
With this victory, Muzamir “DeReal KingKong” Kakande has lifted Uganda’s flag high and also announced himself as one of Africa’s brightest boxing prospects.
