Nam Blazers threaten to boycott NBL finals Tip-Off over fixture change

Fresh from qualifying for the Elite 16 in Tanzania, the Namuwongo Blazers have threatened to boycott the start of the National Basketball League (NBL) Finals, accusing the Federation of Uganda Basketball Associations (FUBA) of poor communication and a sudden fixture change.

The Blazers, who are set to face reigning champions City Oilers in a best of seven series, were originally informed that the finals would begin on Sunday, October 26, 2025.

However, upon returning from their Road to BAL campaign, the team was surprised to find a new fixture circulating with the tip-off rescheduled to Friday, October 24, a change they say was never officially communicated.

According to the club, the original date had been confirmed by FUBA in a public notice before their departure, and no follow-up correspondence was made to indicate otherwise.

The original communication.

The standoff comes just days after Namuwongo’s emphatic semifinal sweep of UCU Canons, which sealed their second appearance in the NBL Finals.

The Oilers advanced after edging Sommet Basketball Club in another tightly contested series.

With the finals now clouded in uncertainty, fans and players alike await FUBA’s response, hoping the championship will be decided on the court, not off it.
