Namuwongo Blazers add Nigerian Big Man Okuchwuku as Playoff chase heats up

The Namuwongo Blazers have added Nigerian center John Bosco Ezeani Okuchwuku to their roster, strengthening their squad just as the National Basketball League playoff race intensifies.

Okuchwuku, who had been seen near the Blazers bench in recent weeks, is now officially registered and joins fellow midseason additions in Ivan Muhwezi and Anthony Chukwurah who have already been involved in some games. The trio is expected to reinforce a Blazers team still eyeing the title.

The signing comes at a crucial moment. After a near-flawless start to the season, the Blazers suffered their first losses over the weekend falling to the UCU Canons on Friday and the Kampala Rockets on Sunday.

The back-to-back defeats snapped their unbeaten streak and served as a wake-up call.

Still, the Blazers sit atop the Men’s Division with 34 points from 16 wins in 18 games. But with the playoffs looming, there’s no room for complacency.

Okuchwuku brings size, rim protection, and toughness in the paint, qualities the Blazers will rely on as the pressure mounts.

With the transfer window closed and squads finalized, it will either be time to lose another Championship or finish the job for a maiden title.
